Many foreigners have already made Malaysia their home under the “Malaysia My 2nd Home” Programme. The full rules are found on the following website, www.mm2h.gov.my (to which you are directed from the Immigration website www.imi.gov.my under “Special Programme”) Note however, that slightly different conditions may apply in Sabah. but the main points are as follows :- A.Applicants over 50 years old 1.Show proof of MONTHLY offshore income of RM10,000 or more from a pension scheme [but the Malaysian Government decides what funds are approved for this purpose], or ……………………. 2.Have a FIXED DEPOSIT of RM 150,000 in a local bank. 3.After ONE YEAR, applicants can withdraw up to RM 90,000 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes but this MUST BE PRE-APPROVED by the Ministry of Tourism. 4.The MINIMUM BALANCE of RM 60,000 MUST remain in FD as long as the participant stays in Malaysia 5.If the participant wishes to leave Malaysia permanently, the balance of RM 60,000 can be withdrawn, BUT PRIOR APPROVAL must be obtained from the Ministry of Tourism. B Applicants UNDER 50 years old ; similar to the above, BUT…. applicants must 6.Have a FIXED DEPOSIT of RM 300,000 in a local bank. 7.After ONE YEAR, applicants can withdraw up to RM 240,000 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes but this MUST BE PRE-APPROVED by the Ministry of Tourism. C. ALL APPLICANTS must comply with the following :- 8.All applicants and their dependants (spouse and children) are required to submit a medical report from any private hospital / registered clinic in Malaysia. 9.Approved participants and dependants (spouse and children) must possess a valid medical insurance policy which is applicable in Malaysia. 10.Participants under the MM2H Programme are NOT allowed to work/be employed while staying in Malaysia - In addition, they should not participate in activities that can be considered as sensitive to the local people and a threat to the security of the country. 11 All applications MUST be submitted through licensed MM2H agents ; you cannot go personally or get a friend/ lawyer/estate agent to act on your behalf. D. Incentives for the MM2H Programme 12.Each participant is allowed to purchase residential houses at a minimum prices above RM250,000 each, depending on the location of the property [RM 350,000 Sarawak] 13.Each participant is allowed to bring in his/her own personal car OR to purchase a locally-assembled car without the need to pay import duty, excise duty and sales tax. 14. Tax exemption is given to PENSION remitted into Malaysia. Participants are required to obtain the endorsement from the Authorities in their country of origin as to the total amount of yearly pension received. A copy of this letter has to be submitted in their application.. Applicants must register with IR and submit tax returns annually. |
